Our Cacao Story: Spirited Journey of the Heart

Sage and James

Embark on an enchanting cacao journey with Tie Dye Dragonfly as we uncover the captivating tale behind our chocolate journey, weaving love, joy, and chocolate into a delightful narrative.

A Love Story

It began on Match.com in the middle of a Midwest winter in 2007. James was looking and Sage was done looking. James typed three words – spirituality, play, and dance – and two women showed up in the search engine out of who knows how many. Sage was the one who responded and off they went – exploring the edges of spirituality, play, and dance.

Their lives took them from leaving the snow of their Midwest roots to experiencing the depths of the ocean in Northern California for a few years. Eventually, they were led to the swaying Ponderosa Pines in Prescott, Arizona. Along the way, Sage and James have continued to keep spirituality, play, and dance at the core of their marriage.

As couples do, Sage and James, had some creative tension one morning. From the darkness came the light when James exclaimed that he wanted to “create something together”.

Tie Dye Dragonfly was beginning its path to being born, but it wasn’t quite there yet.

With Sage’s background in shamanic practices, life coaching, working with animals, intuitive work, writing, music, and art, and James’ background in music, storytelling, and dance, they had plenty to draw upon to create something together.

Cacao: A Blissful Moment

A few weeks later, Sage found herself in front of a stone labyrinth on a cold, rainy day in Kingston, NY while visiting a friend. Bundled up in a raincoat and carrying an umbrella, she braved being uncomfortable. As she entered the labyrinth and asked one question. “What’s next?”

Back home, Sage placed a chocolate “cacao” pod on her altar and asked for guidance. Around the same time, Sage noticed an email come through about a new chocolate company in Prescott, AZ that was having a ribbon cutting. She took note.

Two days later, James was performing music at a local mall for an Easter gathering for young kids and families. Sage was attending his gig. As James’ head bobbed along with the Easter Bunny, Sage noticed the storefront of a local chocolate company above his head.

At the end of his next song, Sage walked into the chocolate company. She noticed a lovely storefront with a manufacturing facility behind a clear curtain. The next step was a cacao consulting meeting to begin creating our bean-to-bar magic plan.

We are complete with research and development and have sourced all of our raw materials. We have our recipes, the packaging is complete, and we have recently begun our first small production with a lovely co-manufacturer in Minnesota!

Totally spirit-driven, this project began with a labyrinth walk in New York. It continued with spirit whispers from South Dakota, beans from Venezuela and consulting in Arizona. The packaging was blessed at the ocean in California and the materials have all made their way back to Minnesota – where Sage and James first met on that wintery day in December.

Here’s to creating a cacao dream into a reality, following the wisdom of intuition, and staying on the path along the way.

Welcome to the colorful, magical, heartfelt adventure, and enjoy our Tie Dye Dragonfly products!
